I think I understand the reluctance some Gay people have to stepping up and getting involved in LGBT civil rights. Since taking on the venture to start Queer Rising Boston I’ve encountered more anger from more people than I’ve experienced before. It’s not the sought of anger that can be used to produce change, but the type that will get in the way of it. Some of it is just mean and pointless, and all of it has been from other LGBTQ people.
Perhaps as a community our collective anger over inequality is at a ground swell, all the more reason to not direct it at each other. Resistance to a new group in the area has been steady but is mild compared to angry emails, name calling, egos, and at least two different conspiracy theories I’ve been warned about. It seems posing a question about a possible strategy, is enough to set people off to make angry ill informed statements, and condescending misunderstandings. Ideas are just ideas and should provoke healthy debate as opposed to angry responses and personal attacks.
While my rights and those of all LGBTQ people are important to me, more important is my husband, my home, and the peace we have built around ourselves.

I am truly sorry to hear that you've had so much anger to deal with. Change is never easy, but debate is so important in gettig there, it's sad to see it's missing in so many instances.

Bottom line - People fear change, and people hate what they fear. Should you be surprised there is a resistance movement against QRB? No. These are after all the same people who would prefer David stay medically lobotomized, attempt to hold people hostage for monetary or political gain or run blacklist campaigns against other people.
